Confidentiality and data protection
We are committed to respecting the confidentiality of your personal information. Informed consent
Before receiving care at Almaval, it is important to give your informed consent. This means that you understand and accept the treatment objectives, confidentiality arrangements, potential risks, and available alternatives. Your consent is an essential part of our therapeutic relationship.

Children and adolescents

Consent to care for a minor follows the Swiss Civil Code:

  1. Before the age of 16, the request for care and consent are provided by the holders of parental authority: both parents when exercising it jointly, which is the rule (Art. 296 CC), or the parent holding sole authority. A third party in good faith may presume that each parent acts with the other's consent (Art. 304 para. 2 CC); to begin psychotherapy, we require the consent of both parents.
  2. A minor capable of discernment consents to their own care (art. 16 and 19c CC). This capacity is assessed on a case-by-case basis; for complex or long-term treatment such as psychotherapy, it is generally recognised from age 16 (indicative ages from the guidelines of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences).
  3. The parent who has custody of the child may take routine or urgent decisions alone (art. 301 para. 1bis CC). In an emergency, when the parents cannot be reached in time, the therapist acts in the child's best interests.
  4. The parent who does not hold parental authority may be informed about the child's condition, with due regard for the child's privacy (art. 275a CC).
  5. Professional secrecy also applies towards the parents of an adolescent capable of discernment.
  6. When a child’s integrity appears to be threatened, professionals may notify the child protection authority (art. 314c CC).
