Almaval nurses provide psychiatric and somatic care for children, adolescents, adults, and elderly persons. They assist with your day-to-day treatment, monitor your health status, and support your family and loved ones, in liaison with your psychiatrist, your doctor, and the existing care network. Care takes place in our centres across French-speaking Switzerland and, depending on the situation, in your living environment.

The role of the mental health nurse

The psychiatric and mental health nurse provides the link between consultations and your daily life. He or she helps you follow your treatment, identifies warning signs with you, and works alongside the psychiatrist, the psychologist, and your attending physician. Care takes into account both your mental and physical health.

Our services

  • Psychiatric follow-up : supportive consultations, monitoring of treatment and its effects, support between medical consultations;
  • Somatic follow-up : attention paid to physical health, which goes hand in hand with mental health;
  • Health status assessment : regular check-in on your overall condition and the development of your symptoms;
  • Blood tests and laboratory work, for example to monitor certain treatments;
  • Follow-up in the living environment : care in your living environment when the situation requires it;
  • Pre- and post-operative follow-up ;
  • Support for informal caregivers : information, support, and advice for the people close to the patient.

The services offered to each person are decided with them and with their physician.

How does nursing care take place?

  1. The referral

    Nursing care is most often suggested by your psychiatrist or your doctor. You can also make the request yourself: the reception will verify the necessary steps with you.

  2. Assessment

    During the first appointment, the nurse takes stock of your situation, your needs and your resources, and agrees with you on the goals of care.

  3. The follow-up

    The location, frequency, and content of the sessions are tailored to your situation and reviewed regularly, in liaison with the other professionals involved in your care.
